Could There Be A Sequel To The Sylvester Stallone Superhero Movie After All?!

MOVIE NEWS – Despite being panned by critics, Sylvester Stallone’s superhero movie may get a sequel. But it did slightly better with audiences.

A sequel to The Samaritan is reportedly in the works. Despite the rare bad reviews from the critics. The film, which will be released on Prime Video in August 2022, follows a young boy played by Javon Walton of Euphoria fame. The boy suspects that Joe Smith, played by Sylvester Stallone, is secretly the titular superhero. He was thought to have died many years ago. Apart from Stallone and Walton, the Samaritan cast also includes Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco and Moisés Arias.

Now, more than a year after its release, a sequel to Stallone’s superhero film is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon and MGM are making a sequel to Samaritan. Stallone is back in the movie. The deal was reportedly struck before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. Bragi F. Schut, who wrote the first film, is also returning to write the script for the sequel.

Does Sylvester Stallone’s Samaritan really deserve a sequel?

The fact that Samaritan is getting a sequel is a surprising development. Considering the critical response to the superhero movie over a year ago and the fact that there has been no talk of a possible sequel since. The Stallone-led film, which was intended as a dark new take on the superhero genre, was a critical flop. Many felt it did little to separate itself from the crowded cinematic palette dominated by mediocre Marvel and DC films. The below-par Samaritan reviews earned it a 38 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the poor reviews, the film was a hit with audiences. The superhero flick generated strong views on Prime Video. According to Amazon, it was the most-watched movie on the streaming service for three consecutive weeks. Audiences reported a drastically different viewing experience from critics. They appreciated Stallone’s solid performance and the film’s refreshingly dark twist on the usual superhero formula. This enthusiastic audience response, along with a strong performance on Prime Video, is more than enough reason to give Samaritan a sequel.
