Has Disney Set The Launch Date For Star Wars: Outlaws?

The Mouse Empire has revealed when we can expect the game from Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment…

So far, the official word on the release date of Star Wars: Outlaws is that it will be released during 2024. (We’re getting used to not writing 2023 anymore!) Then Ubisoft’s financials showed that it could have been released in early 2024 (Q1, Q2), but it seems that they postponed the release because Disney’s blog post showed a different timeframe. What does Disney have to do with this? They own the Star Wars license, and LucasFilm Games, which distributes the licenses, is under them. Still, it is strange that we are hearing details from THEM and not from Yves Guillemot’s company!

“And for Star Wars fans – Star Wars: Outlaws, the open-world Star Wars game, will be released later this year. The game lets you explore different planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new.  You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an aspiring rogue seeking freedom and the means to start a new life with her companion, Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of possibilities,” Disney wrote.

We have every right to expect a game from Massive Entertainment, as the Swedish studio did a good job with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at the end of last year. Since that was also a licensed, open-world, current-gen title, it’s not so certain that the Star Wars game will be forgotten in short order, as Massive can continue to refine the formula that began with Avatar. (Of course, it’s also not a good idea to release games too regularly; unfortunately, that’s what we have to say about the franchise after Far Cry 3!)

So Star Wars: Outlaws will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (with Denuvo; on PC it will probably still be available on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store) in late 2024, probably around November/December. No Amazon Luna port?
