TECH NEWS – Some developers doubt the need for the PlayStation 5 Pro…
According to GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring, who recently spoke with developers at GDC 2024 and discussed the state of the gaming industry, the PlayStation 5 Pro, due out later this year, may not be a necessary or exciting upgrade over the current console.
There seems to be little enthusiasm among the developers for the updated version. “Developers didn’t seem to feel they needed it, they weren’t really making the most of the PS5 in the first place,” Dring shared.
“I didn’t meet a single person that understood the point of it,” said Dring.
Speaking of Xbox, Dring emphasized concerns about the Xbox’s market position. He mentioned that some big gamedev companies have expressed dissatisfaction with the sales of their games on the Xbox Series. A representative of this company has reportedly stated that they are now focusing primarily on the PC and PS5 platforms. They plan to stop releasing games on the Xbox as it has been deemed financially unviable.
Looking at the sales performance of the Xbox, the situation seems bleak. This is especially true in Europe. Sales have already decreased in 2023. However, by 2024, even in comparison, the situation has deteriorated significantly. As a result, some retailers are considering stopping selling Xbox consoles and games altogether.
