Visions of Mana: Square Enix Will Tell us More about it Soon

Square Enix’s action RPG will be the next major episode in the Mana franchise, and it’s no wonder that the fanbase has been waiting a long time for any developments.

The existence of Visions of Mana was first hinted at by Square Enix in 2021, but the official announcement came much later: the Japanese publisher confirmed at The Game Awards 2023 that the RPG will be made, but not in-house, as it is being developed by Ouka Studios, a subsidiary of China’s NetEase. The Mana series received its last major installment eighteen years ago in 2006, when Dawn of Mana was released as a PS2 exclusive.

Since then, there have been many remakes, spin-offs and mobile games, but Visions of Mana is the biggest development of the last decade that Square Enix hasn’t said anything about for six months, but that might change soon: according to Midori, who mainly leaks information about SEGA and Atlus games, we will soon hear new information about the game, including a release date and more details from Square Enix. Since there are two events where Visions of Mana could appear (Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase), we can expect it at one of them, as it should be released sometime this summer, unless it is suddenly delayed.

Midori also revealed on Twitter that Visions of Mana will be coming to the successor of Nintendo Switch. Currently, the target platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4. Nintendo’s new console would not come as a surprise, as Square Enix is looking to adopt a more aggressive multiplatform strategy (plus, the Japanese publisher would release fewer, but quality titles). But don’t expect it at the Nintendo Direct in June, as the big N has already confirmed that it will be about games for Switch, not next-gen hardware.

None of this is official yet.
