Production Videos Shows Real Sets in Alien: Romulus and No CGI [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Alien: Romulus is coming to theaters soon, and it is already impressing us with its use of traditional techniques. Director Fede Álvarez is known for avoiding CGI to enhance authenticity, and he has applied this approach in his new film as well. Watch the video below to witness the stunning work done without CGI!

As the release of the new Alien film, Romulus, approaches, exciting previews have already stirred up the fans. The film’s unique feature is that director Fede Álvarez almost entirely avoided CGI to enhance authenticity. The director shared a behind-the-scenes video and two set photos on social media, showcasing that most of the sets were made using traditional methods.

Álvarez mentioned that during the filming of Alien: Romulus, they strived to minimize CGI use. “In Romulus, we went to great lengths to avoid CG sets. This is Jackson’s Star colony on the first night of shooting… Where have we seen that red neon sign before?” the director wrote in his post.

One of the photos shows the Corbelan IV ship, which transports the heroes to the abandoned Renaissance space station where the story unfolds. This ship is a miniature model, not CGI. Álvarez revealed that the ship was created by Oscar-winning visual effects specialist Ian Hunter, who worked on films like Blade Runner, Batman Returns, Alien: Resurrection, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and First Man. The other photo shows a panel of the spaceship, extremely detailed with illuminated switches and displays.

Álvarez has avoided digital effects in his previous films, preferring traditional techniques. In the 2013 film Evil Dead, they shot in a real forest cabin, using 265,000 liters of fake blood. The filming of Don’t Breathe took place mainly in Hungarian locations, but traditional techniques still dominated.

Alien: Romulus premieres on August 15. In a previous post, Álvarez also showed that the facehuggers were animatronic models operated remotely during filming.
