MOVIE NEWS – Mark Hamill compared his upcoming film at DreamWorks to perhaps the greatest success of his life…

Mark Hamill’s latest role will be in the upcoming animated film The Wild Robot. According to the actor, the film has more in common with Star Wars than the science fiction genre. Based on Peter Brown’s bestseller, The Wild Robot follows robot Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) as she tries to survive in the wild. After being shipwrecked on an island, Roz joins some animals and adopts a young stork, teaching him to fly before his species migrates. The book is a beloved classic that asks thought-provoking questions about parenthood and what it means to be human. Mark Hamill has heaped praise on the animated adaptation, comparing it to the sci-fi blockbuster Star Wars.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024 (according to The Hollywood Reporter), Hamill and the cast of The Wild Robot talked about the upcoming film directed by Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch). Hamill revealed that he has long been a fan of the book. He knew that animated films had huge potential. Hamill said:

“I thought, ‘If they could capture just a small percentage of the effect of this book.’ And I have to tell you, they did a fantastic job.”

Hamill then shocked the audience by comparing The Wild Robot to the most famous franchise, Star Wars.

Regardless of the backlash against the modern instalments of the franchise, the original Star Wars trilogy will always be remembered as one of the greatest sci-fi cinematic sagas of all time. The actor said that The Wild Robot is difficult to describe:

“You just have to see it. It reminds me of back in the day when I was trying to describe Star Wars to people who hadn’t seen it. It’s sumptuous. It’s emotional. It works on so many levels. The kids will love it. The whole family will love it.”

The Wild Robot was first shown at the Annecy Animation Festival earlier this year. Now, the general public can get a glimpse of the new DreamWorks film. With its impressively colourful and vibrant animation, the cinema has already cemented itself as one of the most beautiful animated films of recent years, and there is still more than a month left until the release.

The Wild Robot will be released in US theaters on September 27, 2024.
