The developer de Warframe will be acquired by the MMO Company Perfect World and… a Chicken meat supplier called Sumpo. Many players are already complaining about the acquisition.

We can read in a document from Sumpo, that the companies entered a “non-binding term sheet” on June 30, 2014, and are now “conducting due diligence investigations over the affairs of Digital Extremes.” Right now, Sumpo and Perfect World are finalizing the deal and Digital Extremes was told to not to solicit other offers in the meantime.

Some Warframe players are already against the acquisition, dreading that Perfect World’s involvement will have a negative impact on how the game is monetized. Users on the /r/Warframe subreddit are trying to organize a temporary boycott of the game, and at the time of writing a Change.org petition had already gathered 4,700 signatures urging Digital Extremes not to sell to Perfect World.

“You may have read something about the business development side of Digital Extremes and it may have you concerned,” Digital Extremes Video Game Director Steve Sinclair said on the game’s forums. “For legal reasons, we can’t disclose specifics but if you know the history of Warframe you’d know that we are intent on having Warframe’s design remain in the hands of Digital Extremes. Yes, opportunities will arise for us but the game itself is and will remain a labor of love.”

Currently free-to-play on PC and PlayStation 4, Warframe is set to launch on Xbox One later this year.
