The Elder Scrolls Online may go possibly free to play this year

It has long been rumored that The Elder Scrolls Online may go free to play one day but that day may come sooner rather than later since Zenimax Online has eliminated one of the subscription options available for the MMO.

Those who want to subscribe can now only choose between 30 day and 90 day options, whereas you used to be able to subscribe for 180 days. This may be a simple case of the 6 month option not selling very well (that’s Bethesda’s official line) but many are starting to consider that this may be a prelude to a change in the game’s business strategy.

Other MMOs have deleted subscription options before going Free to Play in the past. This might also be a good idea since the move to the Free to Play business model may also open the game up to a wider audience, including many of those that refuse to pay subscription fees but may very well buy a micro-transaction or two.

Star Wars: The Old Republic did this a few years back, which has arguably boosted the game’s player base. It’s still too soon to tell for now but this may be a sign of things to come. The changeover to free to play could also coincide with the game’s delayed launch on the Xbox One and PS4.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)

I would absolutely love it if it went F2P!! I was in the Beta and I loved the game, but I made a promise to myself that I would never pay $60 for a game, and then pay monthly to play it as well. So it it was F2P I could totally convince myself to spend a few bucks here and there on armors and weapons to show appreciation to Bethesda.

Yep, I feel the same. WoW was enough for me for 5 years as an expensive MMO addiction. :p
