PlayStation is entering the Matrix! Seriously! Sony gave a weird codename to the upgraded PlayStation (NEO – After Project Morpheus, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sony indeed loves the Matrix movies…), which starts to get rumored more recently, making its existence all but confirmed by Sony themselves.
The PS4K would have an improved CPU clock speed (2.1 GHz instead of 1.6), a stronger GPU and a much higher bandwidth on the memory. You can compare the two specs below the article. You might ask: how much of a problem would it be for original PS4 owners not to own the NEO model? Let’s answer this question. Sony wouldn’t tolerate separation, so all games from October 2016 onwards would have a base mode that would run on all PS4s, and the NEO mode (with higher resolution in 4K, HDR, etc.) would be available for the PS4K. Developers wouldn’t be allowed to develop NEO-only games, plus there would be no separation on the PSN between PS4 and PS4K users. (Still, how on Earth would the game devs solve online multiplayer between the specs?)
The console might not be out in October despite deadlines on the rumored games. Sony – of course – is silent. Wait until they announce something.
