Monster Hunter Wilds Just Got Brutal – Capcom’s New Update Brings the Pain Fans Asked For

“This is what we call difficulty. If anyone complains, I’m going to be pissed off” – Monster Hunter Wilds fans are thrilled by what Capcom has pulled off this week. The game’s first major update is wrecking players facing the fierce Seasoned Mizutsune or the punishing Zoh Shia.

This week saw the release of the first real content drop for Monster Hunter: Wilds, also known as Title Update 1 (TU1), giving players two new – or reimagined – monsters to hunt. One is a familiar beast, the other a revamped version of a lower-rank creature. As expected, the online reaction has been loud and passionate, with many fans zeroing in on one key takeaway: the game just got a whole lot harder.

To recap, Monster Hunter: Wilds faced heavy criticism in its early weeks for being too easy. The monsters were dropping fast, the campaign was more hand-holding than previous entries, and even total newcomers weren’t feeling any real danger. One opinion piece even argued that the players themselves were to blame for the lack of challenge.

The Combatants: Seasoned Mizutsune and Zoh Shia

This first batch of new content flips the script. While the base Mizutsune (CR 21+) is more of a warm-up, things heat up quickly with the Seasoned Mizutsune at CR 41+. It’s significantly stronger, boasting unique attack patterns reminiscent of the Tengen Mizutsune from older titles. “He doesn’t mess around,” says T_Sheckler on Reddit’s r/MonsterHunter, sharing a clip where the monster transitions from stunned to flattening the party in seconds.

“This is what we call difficulty,” adds Speeda2 on the same subreddit, this time commenting on the high-rank Zoh Shia, available to challenge from CR 50+. Beating him rewards players with new gear. “It’s an incredible fight. Visually stunning, well-designed, and brutally difficult […] If I see anyone complaining about the difficulty now, I’m going to flip. You’ve all been begging for this.”

Other users chimed in to agree, admitting how rough the encounter was. “I failed four times, but man, what a battle,” said one. Another added, “I died a few times because of support hunters. Managed to kill him with only seconds left.” And then there was this: “I’ve got over 7,000 hours in Monster Hunter, and I honestly felt overwhelmed. I’m freaking out.”

The general consensus is that Zoh Shia requires preparation. Not everyone instantly grasps that you need to shatter special glass barriers using draconic ammo to block his area-of-effect (AOE) attack—and even when done correctly, you’re often just scraping by on time. It’s not a difficulty spike that breaks the game, but for players who’ve been crying out for a challenge, it’s a clear and welcome step in the right direction. We’ll soon see how much tougher things get with the incoming Seasoned King Dau.
