The franchise is thirty years old, and celebrating it with a retro installment seems to be the most logical decision.
Arc System Works, who has already worked on the SEGA Master System port of Double Dragon in 1988, is finishing up IV at the moment. Visually, Double Dragon IV brings the same art style to the table that the original trilogy had, albeit with more content.
Via the website , we learned that the Story Mode would pick up the plot after the events of the second game, and there will be new enemies. The co-op mode is also worth a mention. At the start, only Billy and Jimmy will be playable, but you can expand the roster by playing the Tower mode, which will have no continues and enemies attacking waves in the tower. The higher you get, the more enemy characters will be unlocked as playable. In the Duel Mode, you can beat each other up – sure, it’s not something like Street Fighter V, but it’s still a clever idea.
Double Dragon IV also pulls out Share Play: if only one of you own the game while both of you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription, you can play together for an hour without buying the game for the other person.
Double Dragon IV launches on January 30 on PlayStation 4 and Steam.
