Even on a daily level, (mostly Europeans) play a lot with Psyonix‘s game.
The game turned two years old on Friday, and its initial success was mostly due to PlayStation Plus, where it debuted right out of the box for free in July 2015. The temporary popularity turned into a consistent one: the football game with cars now has over 33 million (!) players, and it may be even more than that, as there’s a Nintendo Switch port in development, due to launch later this year. Quoting DualShockers:„
- 1.6 million players play every day, 3.3 million play every week, and 6.1 million play every month.
- Over 1.5 billion matches have been played.
- Of the active players over the last 12 months, 41 percent play on PS4, 32 percent play on Xbox One, and 27 percent on PC.
- 2v2 is the most popular match type with 50 percent of matches, followed by 3v3 with 32 percent, 1v1 with 16 percent, and 4v4 with 2 percent.
- The most popular car over the last year is one of the OG cars: the Octane.”
Not bad by Psyonix. Congratulations, and let’s make it fifty million next July. With the Switch, Rocket League can achieve that result!
