Turkey Bans A Game For A Short Period Due To It Being „Islamophobic” (When It’s Not)!

Banhammers in Turkey.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports already put a few games on the blacklist because they believe they spread hatred towards Islam and Muslims. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is reasonable, as words of Prophet Muhammad showed up in a bathroom. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock? Allah’s name in the background in a level. Resident Evil? The Koran is left on the floor in a scene. Tekken Tag Tournament 2? Allah’s name on the floor. These are somewhat understandable.

Then, there’s Pac-Man. According to the ministry, the reasoning behind the ban is that the ghosts present in the game would represent Muslim women with the veil and under the video game, there would be a subtle metaphor: eating enemies would in fact match collecting veiled Muslim women. Then someone realized it’s completely farfetched and thus, the ban was lifted on Namco’s character.

The head of Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research, Huzeyfe Yilmaz considers games as a harmful material, and he would restrict selling them within Turkey due to them spreading Islamophobia…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
