…there’s a but in the title, and for a good reason.
Let’s get through the obligatory things first: both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One received the MMA game’s open beta, which is going to be open until Sunday midnight Pacific. Multiple multiplayer modes (Fight Now, Online Quick Fight, Practice, UFC Ultimate Team) are included, but there’s a twist.
Astute Gaming details in an article how this game is riddled with loot boxes, which contain rare boosters that plonk up the fighter’s skills to high levels and the situation might repeat the scenario that Star Wars: Battlefront II and Need For Speed: Payback had in the recent weeks. Again, we’re talking about a sixty dollar/euro game with microtransactions. (They also wrote how other aspects of UFC 3, such as the commentary, have not improved that much.)
Electronic Arts will not remove the microtransactions, especially this close to the release date: the game is out on February 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
