After 32 Years, the Secret is Out: this is Why One of the Main Characters in Jurassic Park was Pardoned

MOVIE NEWS – For a generation, fans have wondered why the ending of Jurassic Park differs significantly from the one in the Michael Crichton novel on which the film is based. In the original story, the creator of the prehistoric park, John Hammond – played by Sir Richard Attenborough in the film – is bitterly punished for disrupting the order of nature by resurrecting the dinosaurs. In the finale, he falls and sprains his ankle while fleeing, causing a pack of Procompsognathus to catch up with him and eat him. In the film, however, Hammond is saved.

 

Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp has now revealed to Empire magazine why the character was spared. “The novel is a little more somber than the movie. The character played by Richard Attenborough is eaten as punishment by the creatures he resurrected. That seemed pretty depressing to us. We actually liked this guy, so we allowed him to stay alive and learn from his mistakes.”

The latest installment in the dinosaur series, Jurassic World: Rebirth, promises to be the big movie sensation of the summer, because it was born with the avowed aim of rebooting the franchise. In the new story, a team led by Scarlett Johansson’s character goes to a remote island inhabited by prehistoric creatures to obtain DNA from the three largest dinosaurs that are important for the survival of humanity.
