Meanwhile, SEGA is considering Yakuza 0-2, and they also talked about Shin Yakuza.
The Japanese publisher announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2, which launched in December in Japan, and is a Dragon Engine (used by Yakuza 6: The Song of Life) remake of the original Yakuza 2 on the PS2, is going to launch in the West on August 28 for 50 dollars/euros! The pre-orderers and the first copies’ buyers will get a Steelbook version, which features Kiryu and Ryuji Goda. Not bad: SEGA is now making us wait less than a year to get the game, unless it gets delayed (which happened to Yakuza 6, too…). Trailer below.
In California, there was a Yakuza event, where Daisuke Sato, the producer of the franchise, was present. Here, he said that the developer team liked Yakuza 0 a lo, and they would consider making a 0-2 (which sounds stupid, but it would be set between Yakuza 0 and 1), but he didn’t confirm whether it was in development or not.
Regarding Shin Yakuza, Sato said that plot-wise, it will be set after 6, which means there will be „a lot of opportunities” for familiar characters to make a return. The new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga will be in an entirely different situation, as he will have no friends, support, or money, starting from the bottom ranks. His personality is also different: he is outspoken and emotional, while Kazuma Kiryu is more of a stoic and „stone wall-like” personality.
If you see Kazuma Kiryu 7 in Tekken 7 in the future, don’t be surprised: Sato is open to ideas like that…
