Despite the legal disputes, the development comes to an end.
The publisher of the game, Gun Media, announced on its forums that Friday the 13th is not getting any new content anymore: „I wanted to address a few questions that I’ve had sent to me personally, as well as questions we’ve received through the official F13 channels. These questions vary, but all have a similar tone/request. ‘Is there a chance of any content being added to the game if a ruling on the dispute occurs shortly?’ The answer is no.
Development of games can’t just pause indefinitely and pick back up again; it doesn’t work that way. Especially when you have no idea when that future date will occur. We can’t keep building content that may never see the light of day. That’s bad business,” Wes Keltner, the founder and president of Gun Media, wrote.
What is the legal dispute behind the game’s sudden death? Roughly two weeks ago, Victor Miller, the writer of the original film, announced that he’d like to get back the rights from the current rights holder (who also was the producer and director of the film), Sean Cunningham – Cunningham gave the green light for the devs to make the game, and he says Miller was just a work-for-hire for the script. Gun Media decided to take a temporary break from development back then.
…however, the temporary pause is now permanent. What a shame…
