SEGA has plans…
SEGA revealed a survey aimed at Yakuza Kiwami 2‘s customers. In it, four questions hint at the localisation of Japan-only Yakuza titles. How interested are you in purchasing remasters/remakes of existing Yakuza games? How interested are you in purchasing new games set in the world of Yakuza? How interested are you in purchasing games created by the Yakuza team in other worlds, like the upcoming Fist of the North Star game? How interested are you in purchasing the various spin-off titles that have never received western release?
The last question might make you ask what games could these titles be. Well, 2008’s Yakuza: Kenzan! on the PlayStation 3 (set in the Edo period [1603-1868] when the Tokugawa shogunate ruled Japan, locking it down from the outside world for the most part as well), and 2014’s Yakuza: Ishin! on the PlayStation 4 and PS3 (1853-1867, Bakugawa period, towards the end of the Edo period) are them – both being historical spin-offs. These could get an English localisation.
During the newest SEGA-Nama broadcast, Toshihiro Nagoshi, who’s pretty much the head of the Yakuza franchise, hinted at a brand new title announcement. „The [next Sega-Nama] broadcast after Tokyo Game Show will be a big one… We’ll discuss topics no one is going to expect […] it is something truly different. It’s a new title announcement that will turn things upside down,” he said.
It seems that the Yakuza franchise’s future is in good hands at the moment.
