Jeuxvideo-Live has interviewed the developers at Gamescom – we learned several new details about the short-but-punchy game that is co-developed by Square Enix and Human Head Studios (Prey 2006!).
The game’s concept has been done for a decade – the development started about 1.5 years ago. They first concentrated on the audio due to the protagonist called Dane. He’s going to be a deaf character, which is why we won’t hear the dialogue, but we won’t get subtitles for them either. It’s going to be a pseudo-independent project with a reasonable price tag (as it’s going to be 15 dollars/euros), making it different from AAA games. The Quiet Man is meant to be a combination of a game and a drama, making it a bit of a mystery – the gamers have to come together and figure out what the dialogue is about.
Dane’s skills will be represented through the lens flare – if he gets hurt, the lens flare might disappear altogether. There were other technological challenges: they had to synchronise the coordination, the motion capture, the lighting with the live-action team’s work. Digitalizing the characters and their clothing wasn’t easy either, and the same could be said about the environment as well.
The Quiet Man will combine CGI scenes with in-game ones. The former has the actors’ moves digitalised, the latter one’s action scenes were helped by Tatsuro Koike, who is the director/coordinator for Yakuza’s action scenes.
The Quiet Man, which will use Unreal Engine 4, has no release date yet. It is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC.
