Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s First Mod Fixes the Game’s Most Annoying Issues

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has officially received its first mod, targeting some of the RPG’s most criticized elements. This update removes the 30 FPS cap from cutscenes and corrects FOV problems for players using ultrawide monitors.

 

Despite launching alongside the high-profile Oblivion remaster, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 managed to carve out significant success in its debut week. Although players initially faced access issues due to a Steam interface bug, the developers responded quickly and effectively to resolve the situation.

 

ClairObscurFix Mod Arrives for Sandfall Interactive’s RPG

 

Even with strong reviews from critics and players, there were a few graphical shortcomings that drew some complaints. However, these minor flaws only emphasized how much players have embraced Sandfall Interactive’s turn-based RPG. Less than 24 hours after release, a mod appeared to address the most commonly raised issues.

Developed by modder Lyall and available on GitHub, the ClairObscurFix is an ASI plugin that offers a collection of tweaks, including:

  • The ability to skip the intro logos
  • Access to the game’s developer console (use at your own risk)
  • Removal of the 30 FPS limit during cutscenes
  • Disabling letterboxing and pillarboxing effects (improving widescreen and 4:3 scenes)
  • Turning off Force Sharpening for clearer visuals
  • Fixing Field of View issues on ultrawide displays

Installing the mod is straightforward: simply extract the three individual files (not the entire folder) from the downloaded ZIP and place them into the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Expedition 33\Sandfall\Binaries\Win64. Be careful not to overwrite the entire folder—only copy the specified files.

A version of the mod is also available for Xbox consoles, but there is currently no PS5 release.

Once installed correctly, players will gain options to disable Force Sharpening and adjust the Field of View when using an ultrawide monitor.

As for the removal of letterboxing and pillarboxing, it is worth noting that these visual choices were intentional, supporting the game’s narrative and artistic presentation. Although altering them poses no technical issues, they were purposefully designed to enhance the story experience—changing them won’t diminish the game’s quality.
