The PC Is More And More Becoming The Favourite Platform For The Developers!

The Game Developers Conference’s survey states this in its results. The survey was taken by nearly four thousand developers.

The State of the Games Industry 2019 report found that 56% of the answerers released their last game on PC (and it’s the first time that number is over fifty per cent!). 38% of them released their latest game on smartphones/tablets. Nearly two-thirds of the devs (62%) are currently developing a game for PC, and the PlayStation 4 got the highest console ranking (32%), although the smartphones/tablets beat them to the punch (35%). What platform interests the developers the most? The PC (60%), followed by a surprising result from the Nintendo Switch (45%) in second.

The devs were also asked if they agree/disagree with Steam taking a 30% cut on their games’ sales. Only 6% of them agreed with Gabe Newell’s digital store front’s decision. 17% „maybe” agrees, 17% didn’t know the answer, 27% thinks Steam „probably” didn’t justify the decision, and 32% outright disagrees. Still, Steam remained their favourite digital distribution platform (47%), followed by direct sales by the devs (26%), and the remaining three answers (itch.io, Humble Store, GOG) scored under 20%. (Where’s the Epic Store?)

There are more in the results, but PCGamer published that much. You can access the entire report by registering here. We left the most painful for last. Over 50% of the devs say that work 40+ working weeks on their games. Ouch…

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
