[Nintendo Direct] Astral Chain: Another Successful PlatinumGames Title? [VIDEO]

During Nintendo Direct, a game was announced that was in development at PlatinumGames, which itself already makes the game worthy of looking into it.

„[…] As part of a police special task force, it’s up to you to fight against mysterious, alien-like creatures who have invaded the world. In the Ark, a multi-cultural city in the near future, disaster strikes when gates to another dimension suddenly appear! Dangerous creatures begin to emerge, attacking the people and polluting the land, and normal police forces are unable to compete with them. To stand up against these threats, a brand new, special police unit, known as Neuron is formed.

Choose between two playable characters – one male, one female – on your adventure. The character you don’t choose also appears as your younger twin, and a fellow member of Neuron. In order to resist the creatures, humanity developed a special weapon: the Legion. The Legion acts as your partner and helps with your investigations. However, it’s in a battle where the Legion shows its real ability… Work together with the Legion and use all sorts of combat styles to fight your enemies. You could both attack the same enemy simultaneously, target different opponents, or send your Legion on the offensive while you support it with items. Use this synergetic action system to battle and explore together! […]”, Nintendo‘s official description reads.

However, that’s not why this cyberpunk-anime styled title is interesting. Let’s take a look at the people behind Astral Chain: Takahisa Taura is responsible for its concept and planning (he was the game designer of NieR: Automata as well), Masakazu Katsura is the character designer (previously creating Zetman and Video Girl Ai), and the project’s supervisor is none other than Hideki Kamiya Resident Evil 2 (1998), Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101). After the unfortunate cancellation of the Xbox One/Windows 10 title Scalebound, we’re glad to see Kamiya work on something new.

Astral Chain will launch on August 30, exclusively on Nintendo Switch. *tosses a piece of paper in a dog costume into a trash can*

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
