For us, this collection will have a bit of „local” connection, too!
SEGA announced on Twitter what the first ten games will be on the SEGA Mega Drive Mini. (The first ten is the same as the Genesis Mini‘s list, so the difference doesn’t exist here.) They are the following: Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Space Harrier II, Shining Force, Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, ToeJam & Earl, Comix Zone, Sonic The Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes – you read it right, Ecco the Dolphin is the first on the list (which does differ from the Japanese one: there’s no Sonic 2, but Sonic 1 in the West, for example)
And here’s the local connection to the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive Mini: Ecco the Dolphin was (partially) created by Hungarians, including László Mérő, who is a mathematician, a publicist, and a psychologist – he’s currently a professor at one of the biggest universities in Hungary, too.
The games are being ported by M2, who previously proved themselves with SEGA AGES and SEGA 3D Classics Collection. We learned the pricing, too: the SEGA Mega Drive Mini, which will launch on September 19, will cost 70 GBP / 80 Euros. There’s also a website. Only the Japanese players will get the six-button controller. Unfortunately, we’ll have to make do with the three-button one. The packaging will include the SEGA Mega Drive Mini (which is 55% smaller than the original), two controllers, a USB power cable, and an HDMI cable.
The North American SEGA Genesis Mini will cost 80 dollars, and their first ten games are the same as ours. (But, they will get a power adapter, too, while us Europeans don’t. How fair.)
