Matthew Walker told Sektor, a Slovakian website (which, thankfully, got translated by Feed 4 Gamers) that he would gladly work on DmC: Devil May Cry 2, but he would only do it on one condition that might not be possible.
Previously, we wrote about how Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Devil May Cry 3-4-5, respects and loves the work of Ninja Theory (the developers of DmC: Devil May Cry, as well as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice). Well, what Walker said is on the same train of thought as Itsuno: „As you mentioned, on the dev side we certainly wanted to and thought we would work with Ninja Theory again to create a sequel to DmC[: Devil May Cry], but that, unfortunately, didn’t get off the ground. We’d still love to see a sequel, but we think it absolutely has to be made by Ninja Theory – so much of the amazing style and substance in that game was only possible because they have such a knack for what’s cool. It wouldn’t be DmC without Ninja Theory.”
There’s not much chance for it to happen anymore. Why? Simple: in the past twelve months, Microsoft has acquired many studios (such as Obsidian, whose next game, The Outer Worlds, will be still multiplatform, though), including Ninja Theory, who are now part of the Xbox Game Studios. If DmC: Devil May Cry 2 did happen, it would likely have to force Capcom to make it possible on PC and Xbox (we’re not saying Xbox One, as the next console generation is a little more than a year away at this point…), and we’re not sure if the Japanese company would take that offer.
So Capcom would work on the game, but Microsoft would likely disallow development for Sony‘s console, even though the two companies – as one of the biggest surprises of the month – announced working together on streaming, cloud-based technologies!
