Death Stranding: Introducing Heartman [VIDEO]

Nicolas Winding Refn‘s character, Heartman was introduced in Hideo Kojima’s game.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Hideo Kojima published a new trailer of his long-awaited game, revealing a character formed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who has recently been reaching places in the film industry. Sony couldn’t do much about the leaked video, so they decided to properly publish the video shown at the event themselves. (At least they did the reasonable thing while Square Enix continues to make us wait until Gamescom ends in August to properly see the gameplay demo of Marvel’s Avengers – we already discussed its leaked video.)

Heartman’s name is for a good reason: the character’s heart stops every 21 minutes. Three minutes later, an AED (automated external defibrillator) revives him by shocking his heart so it can pump blood again. Heartman got used to this in the game, and he tells Sam Bridges, the protagonist of Death Stranding that he got used to this 24-minute cycle in his life, and most bodily functions fit into 21 minutes. He shows Sam a ton of TV series, films, and music, which is most likely a reference to Kojima’s fandom of these media in the game. Still, Heartman considers the 21 minutes as downtime – he waits for those 3 minutes so he can look for his family on the „beaches”…

Death Stranding, Kojima’s first game post-Konami (and post-Metal Gear) will launch on November 8, exclusively on PlayStation 4, although the Only on PlayStation text isn’t on the box art (which we also discussed before), meaning the rumours about the game coming out on PC at a later date could be true. Sony expects a lot from this game, and yet, the exclusivity text isn’t seen anywhere…
