Yakuza: Like A Dragon Is Getting A Demo Shortly

The team is highly confident about making the genre of the game an RPG, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which is different than the previous titles in the series.

On November 2, SEGA held a meet-and-greet dedicating session in Japan, where Toshihiro Nagoshi (the head of the Yakuza series), and Masayoshi Yokoyama, the producer of Yakuza: Like A Dragon, were present, GameWatch, a Japanese publication, reports. Fans could not only acquire the two devs’ autographs, but also try the game out, and, according to the franchise’s website, more similar events will happen. The Nagoshi-Yokoyama duo made several announcements.

The game, which is called Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 there (meaning it is numbered as well), is going to get a demo soon, but we don’t know when it will hit the Japanese PlayStation Store yet. (Let’s hope that the West will not be ignored…). The demo version at the event was improved since the Tokyo Game Show – in this build, both Ichigan and his team were controllable, and the Just Action and Just Guard systems were also implemented.

Yokoyama mentioned that one of the reasons behind the switch to the RPG genre is that it allows a different kind of friendship and a deeper (more dramatic) story that can resonate more with the players. It cannot be shown via a demo, though, so it will concentrate on the battle system. Nagoshi and Yokoyama claim that the general worldwide fan reaction to the turn-based RPG switch has been positive, and they believe the demo will silence the doubters as well. Each team member will have a unique job (Saeko Mukouda, the only female character revealed in the party yet, could use office items if she has the office desk job during combat, but she was previously seen as an Idol, too), and the game will have the popular-in-Japan pachislot machines, too.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is out in the West sometime next year on the PlayStation 4. Japan will get the game on January 16.
