The goal of Abubakar Salim, the Assassin’s Creed: Origins actor, is to „tell cool stories and have innovative gameplay.”
Salim’s name might not say much, so let’s quickly say that he was the Assassin’s Creed: Origins actor who lent his voice to Bayek of Siwa in the game. He now decided to open his game development studio called Silver Rain Games. He’s not alone: he is assisted by Melissa Philips, former BAFTA games program manager.
Salim might be familiar from television – he showed up on Black Mirror or 24 to name a few examples. The actor says that he wants to tell stories that empower players, and he also told Gamesindustry that he grew up playing Kingdom Hearts and World of Warcraft.
„I’ve played so many games, I’ve been in games, I got into storytelling through games. So it just felt natural to start a games studio and create awesome content. With Assassin’s Creed, one of the strongest cores of the whole process [of making the game] was the story and the world. That was what influenced and supported the actual creation of the game, from the mechanics to the art and the sound. It all came from the story, and that core feeling of seeing the pitch of what they were trying to do with Origins,” Salim said.
He added that Salim played the Assassin’s Creed series right from the beginning (so the past 12-13 years), and it taught him a lot about the multiple aspects of video game development. He also hasn’t decided on what platforms will Silver Rain Games develop for, but he wants to reach as many players as possible.
So because of that, we’ll say Google Stadia. Since Jade Raymond, who happened to work at Ubisoft to assist laying the foundation of Assassin’s Creed, is now heading Stadia Games & Entertainment, it might happen.
