Activision shares its financial results with Call of Duty leading and classic games on the horizon

The company publishes its fiscal year results highlighting the success of Call of Duty and anticipating news.

The Call of Duty saga is one of the giants of the current shooting scene. The Activision and Infinity Ward franchise has been the big dominant in 2019 sales and continues to be on the podium as of 2020. Besides, its latest instalment, the battle royale Warzone, recently surpassed the 50 million player barrier in just one month.

Activision Blizzard has recapitulated all the information on its franchises in the financial results report for the first quarter of 2020. In it, several things stand out, but, above all, it appears that Call of Duty: Warzone has already more than 60 million players since its launch in March and to date.

On the other hand, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is crowned as the best-selling franchise video game outside its launch quarter. March has been a month in which sales have grown tremendously, driven by Warzone and “increased demand stemming from homebound conditions.” As a result, Modern Warfare has doubled in-game sales relative to Black Ops 4.

Activision works on two titles based on old IP but it does not end there, because the financial report also mentions that the team is still working from home to launch new video games this year. And this is where he mentions “the upcoming premium Call of Duty games, two titles based on Activision IPs, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” and regional mobile video game trials, among others.

Does this mean that Activision will rescue some of its old franchises? Recall that we have previously received Crash Bandicoot and Spyro titles. Furthermore, we know that there is a new Call of Duty in development for 2020, although the company refers to these “premium games” in the plural.
