The next new Resident Evil game in the works at Capcom – according to new rumours – might be even darker than previous entries in the franchise.
Let’s recap the previous rumours of Resident Evil 8. Most of them originate from AestheticGamer. The game started development as Resident Evil Revelations 3, but the testers liked it, so it got retooled (rebooted) into a mainline game with an early 2021 release window on both current-gen and next-gen consoles. Ethan Winters would be the protagonist, Chris Redfield would show up in flashbacks, the location would be a European village and castle (which is why the game’s subtitle is Village). We didn’t write down everything, but that’s the gist of it.
AestheticGamer is back at it again: „I don’t know much on [the] Silent Hill [soft reboot on PlayStation 5] I haven’t shared, but it’s revealed soon so I’m looking forward to it. I still believe it from what I was shown, but I do have a healthy sceptic in me. Resident Evil 8, I’m excited about the reveal, it’s by far the darkest & most gruesome RE yet,” he wrote on Twitter. He added that we should „Get ready for some of the most disturbing enemy designs in the Resident Evil series.”
On the ResetEra forums, he went into more detail. He says that Resident Evil 8 will have a new type of zombies, beastmen, as well as a burly staff-wielding „juggernaut,” and a witch-like „stalker” that will have an obscured face. The gameplay will be more open than in the previous few entries. Capcom is also planning to improve the gunplay after Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Chris Redfield is also getting a makeover, combining his RE7 look with his square-jaw design in 5 and 6. The next paragraph has spoilers, so read it at your risk.
AestheticGamer says that Chris does something in Resident Evil 8 that’s „horrible and f–ked up with full intent to do it” and that „it’s quite something.” We can’t even imagine what the Resident Evil veteran is about to do in this game.
None of this is confirmed, but it seems plausible and serious. And if Capcom announces the game shortly, then we shouldn’t be afraid of the rumours.
