As expected, Take-Two is about to cash in on the Mafia franchise, with Hangar 13’s development.
They will properly announce everything on May 19, at 9 PM PST/12 PM EST/6 PM CEST, and it already got a teaser trailer, which will follow this sentence.
But that’s not all! Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II: Definitive Edition had their Microsoft Store listings leaked! According to these, Mafia II’s re-release (remaster…) will launch on May 19, and while Mafia III’s Definitive Edition listing wasn’t found, this version of the game (which will likely be the same game with all the DLC), we can suspect it coming also on May 19. However, this won’t technically be a new release, as Mafia III was made for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One by default, unlike Mafia II (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360).
However, Mafia: Definitive Edition will feature a remake, not just a remaster! „Part one of the Mafia crime saga—1930s, Lost Heaven, Illinois. Re-made from the ground up, rise through the ranks of the Mafia during the Prohibition era of organized crime. After a run-in with the mob, cab driver Tommy Angelo is thrust into a deadly underworld. Initially uneasy about falling in with the Salieri crime family, Tommy soon finds that the rewards are too big to ignore. […] Faithfully recreated, with expanded story, gameplay and original score. This is the Mafia you remembered and much more. Own Mafia: Definitive Edition to unlock Tommy’s Suit and Cab in both Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition,” the Microsoft Store says.
Let’s also see what they wrote about Mafia II: Definitive Edition (which will be nearly 44 GB on Xbox One): „Part two of the Mafia crime saga—1940s to 50s Empire Bay, New York. Remastered in stunning HD detail, live the life of a gangster during the Golden-era of organized crime. War hero Vito Scaletta becomes entangled with the mob in hopes of paying his father’s debts. Alongside his buddy Joe, Vito works to prove himself, climbing the family ladder with crimes of larger reward, status and consequence. […] Own Mafia II: Definitive Edition to unlock Vito’s Leather Jacket and Car in both Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition.”
So Mafia II: (and III:) is (are) set to come on May 19, while Mafia: Definitive Edition drops on August 28. All the titles are heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).
