Ubisoft Montreal: A New Head After The Scandal

The sexual harassment scandal that stepped up to a higher level last weekend still has its impact felt throughout the French company.

Or at least the shock of it – we have yet to see the long-term changes (if there will be any). Two higher-ups have departed from Ubisoft, and one of them was the person who supervised the French company’s Canadian studios. Yannis Mallat was in this position after being the producer of the Prince of Persia series in the 2000s under the hands of Yves Guillemot (who is still the CEO of Ubisoft).

However, Mallat left, so a new leader was needed to take the reins of Ubisoft Montreal, which is one of the most important studios within the company (it’s the main team on Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and it’s also the biggest dev group in the world, do we need to say more…?). Samuel Horti, a writer at Business Insider, says Mallat’s replacement will be Christophe Derennes, who until now was the studio’s executive vice president of production.

„Derennes has immense expertise in production management in his 25 years with Ubisoft and has been a source of daily support for development teams in the creation of our games and helped make them into the great successes of which we are all proud,” the publisher said. While Ubisoft didn’t announce this yet, Jeux.ca obtained the internal letter regarding the subject.

Keep in mind that Derennes is only leading Ubisoft Montreal. The rest of the Canadian portfolio (Toronto, Quebec City, Saguenay, Halifax, Winnipeg) will be handled by Christine Burgess Quemard, the Ubisoft executive director of worldwide studios, whose portfolio will thus grow further.

How many skeletons will fall from Ubisoft’s closet? What about the two games they didn’t show recently? (Beyond Good & Evil 2, as well as the Sea of Thieves-competitor Skull of Bones, which is reportedly reworked into a live service title…)

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
