Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis: Time For The Facelift [VIDEO]

SEGA‘s MMORPG barely got released in the West a few months ago (although it’s officially North America only, you can log in from Europe as well), but now, we’re going to get a new version…

SEGA is going to release Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis on different platforms depending on the region: in North America (and Europe?), it will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, while Japan will prefer the local platforms: the PlayStation 4, the PC, and with the help of the cloud, the Nintendo Switch will receive it. (Since the technology is advanced there, it’s not surprising – even Resident Evil 7: Biohazard got a cloud version previously.)

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be a new entry in the PSO2 universe, as a complete overhaul of the game’s systems and graphics to celebrate Phantasy Star Online’s 20th anniversary. (Think of Final Fantasy XIV, which flopped hard, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which turned things around. The same thing here, but without the flop – PSO2 is good on its own.)

„Online action RPG Phantasy Star Online 2, well known for its unparalleled character customization and battle action which captivated the world, announced its latest entry to the Phantasy Star Online 2 universe called Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. One of the goals for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is to create the ultimate Phantasy Star Online 2s in which the time-tested elements are kept intact, while the game design, gameplay, and graphics engine will be completely redesigned and reborn in all aspects. We are working very hard to offer players unparalleled character customization, limitless adventure, and the best action online RPG available on the Xbox One or PC. Also, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will support Xbox Series X in the future.

We would like to introduce 3 keywords that are related to Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis: Uncharted Expansive World; Unknown Threats; The True Adventure Starts, NOW!”, Xbox Wire reads.

Although they didn’t explicitly say it, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis’ goal is to bring parity between the Japanese and the Western version. Wouldn’t have it made more sense if they waited with the localized release until New Genesis…? Regardless, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is out in 2021 on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
