The mangaka admits that he did say that they met, however, no agreement was made between Junji Ito and Hideo Kojima.
After the release of Death Stranding on PS4 last year, and on PC this summer, Hideo Kojima is already working on his next video game project. Given the creator’s track record with projects like the cancelled Silent Hills, there has been much speculation that the next Kojima Productions game may be a survival horror of some sort. Rumors that have escalated after Junji Ito, one of Japan’s most prolific horror authors, claimed that he and Kojima had conversations to work together on a scary game. Well, the author has now qualified his words.
“In a past interview, I said casually that I received an offer from Mr. Kojima, but in reality, it was a remark made at a party where he said, “If there is an opportunity, I may ask for your help”. I apologize to Mr. Kojima and all of the fans to whom I may have given false hope. https://t.co/DizN3WqJWI

Through his Twitter account (translated by Eigogamejikkyo), the mangaka has clarified that no, he is not working with Hideo Kojima on a video game, nor has he received an offer for it from the studio. This is all a misunderstanding in an interview, following his comments: “In a past interview, I said casually that I received an offer from Mr. Kojima, but in reality, it was a remark made at a party where he said, “If there is an opportunity, I may ask for your help”.
Therefore, no negotiation or a firm offer of collaboration, it seems that Hideo Kojima and Junji Ito had nothing more than a casual comment made during a social gathering. ” I apologize to Mr. Kojima and all of the fans to whom I may have given false hope.” concludes the Japanese horror author.
In the past half-year there have been numerous rumors about the Silent Hill saga, especially after Konami confirmed to study various ways to bring this franchise back.
We will see if the next project by Kojima Productions is a horror game or not, although the first published sketches point more to a science fiction title.
Until then, we leave you with our review of Death Stranding.
