Alan Wake 2: Control’s New DLC Effectively Confirms It!

Control’s last DLC might have revealed what Remedy’s shared universe will have for us in store as the next game: Alan Wake 2.

We forewarn you: only read further at your risk, as the following paragraphs will discuss the events of Control’s new DLC, AWE. So what is this Alan Wake 2 that is highly likely to be the next Remedy universe game?

The DLC’s main mission for Jesse Faden is related to Alan Wake, and more specifically Dr Hartman (the psychiatrist who desired to exploit the reality-bending powers of Alan Wake, plus a few other artists such as the Andersons and Thomas Zane). Jesse is contacted via the Hotline by Alan. He tells her to check out the „monster” that is still roaming free in the Investigation Sector. There, Jesse learns that Hartman tried to partner with the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) to investigate paranatural phenomena. The problem is that the FBC considered him a paracriminal, so they locked him up in the Oldest House for a while, as he was deemed „a low threat.”

However, Hartman went back to the Cauldron Lake, where the Dark Presence transformed him during a diving session, turning him into a proper paranatural threat. This is why the FBC locked him up AGAIN, but this time, into the Bright Falls AWE area of the Investigation Sector. He broke free, though, so he killed everyone, resulting in the entire sector being sealed away. Now for the important part – we had to explain the background events! – Jesse is contacted by Langdon (he’s in charge of overseeing all the Altered  Items from the Panopticon sector), who received an alarm about an Altered World Event taking place once again in Bright Falls. However, it happens „a couple of years in the future.”  Also, Alan Wake’s last message mentions: he wants to write a story about a hero who would save him from the Dark Place, where he is still trapped since the ending of the game. That hero is none other than Jesse.

It effectively means Alan Wake 2 could arrive in 2022 or so by Remedy Entertainment who regained the full IP from Microsoft a year ago, meaning they no longer have obstacles about working on a sequel. However, it means that Jesse could be the main character, which wouldn’t rule out Alan as a playable character.
