Is Sony Working On A New Uncharted?

There’s a possibility that a new Uncharted is secretly in development for PlayStation 5, and it could be the fifth episode in the series.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has several studios that have no unique name (such as SIE Santa Monica, the devs behind 2018’s God of War, or its upcoming PlayStation 5-exclusive God of War: Ragnarok). Aside from the Naughty Dog-s and the Insomniac Games-es, there are people like SIE San Diego.

This studio is mostly known for the MLB: The Show baseball games. This team started to beef up for a new group. So far, that doesn’t sound suspicious, but several Naughty Dog employees have shifted their workplace to this team. One such person happens to be Zak Oliver, whose LinkedIn profile reveals that after eight years of being an environment artist at Naughty Dog, he moved to SIE San Diego to work on an unannounced project.

Previously, Naughty Dog said that they want to leave the Uncharted franchise behind them (which is why after Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, they created The Last of Us Part II), so there could be some logic behind changing workplaces within Sony Interactive Entertainment. Even though Uncharted started on PlayStation 3, making it not that big of an IP, let’s also not forget that The Last of Us also started there.

Rumours say SIE San Diego’s new team is working on the continuation of Uncharted (but we intentionally avoid using the number five, as they might not continue Nathan Drake’s story – instead, they might do a prequel), so if this is the case, we might still have to wait a lot until the announcement and the eventual release.

If we had to guess, the new Uncharted wouldn’t be available before 2023 on PlayStation 5.
