MOVIE NEWS – More than two decades after his final James Bond movie, Pierce Brosnan has made it very clear what he no longer has any desire to do when it comes to 007. At the same time, the actor admitted that he might respond very differently if Denis Villeneuve offered him another role in the upcoming Bond movie.

James Bond is heading back to the big screen, with Denis Villeneuve’s new 007 movie moving closer to production. While the identity of Daniel Craig’s successor remains unknown, Pierce Brosnan has reflected on his relationship with the franchise more than 20 years after the end of his own Bond era. Speaking to Variety, Brosnan revealed that he has never gone back to revisit his old James Bond movies. As an actor, that chapter of his career appears to be firmly behind him.

“I have no desire to see myself in Bond. I’m just a member of the audience now, awaiting the next Bond and wishing him well,” Brosnan said. That does not mean he has completely ruled out returning to the franchise in another capacity. Asked whether he might consider a different role if Denis Villeneuve approached him, Brosnan sounded considerably more receptive. He suggested that he would “look at it in a heartbeat,” meaning that while he has no interest in becoming 007 again, the right role could still bring him back into Bond’s world.

Who Will Play the Next James Bond?

The biggest mystery surrounding Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Bond movie remains the identity of the next 007. Fans have put forward numerous British actors for the role, ranging from Henry Cavill to Callum Turner, while rumors about Amazon MGM’s casting plans continue to circulate. Younger stars such as Tom Holland were reportedly considered at one point, although more recent indications suggest the studio may not ultimately be heading in that direction. No official casting announcement has been made.

Speculation intensified again in recent weeks following comments from Gary Oldman that some interpreted as suggesting Amazon had already chosen the next James Bond and was preparing to announce him. Oldman later clarified that his remarks had been taken out of context, but he still threw his support behind his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for the part. Lowden had already been mentioned among possible contenders, so Oldman’s endorsement only added more attention to his name. There is still no official confirmation that he has been cast.

Just as exciting as the casting speculation is the creative team behind the project. Denis Villeneuve is one of Hollywood’s most respected working directors, having proven himself across multiple genres with films ranging from the cerebral science fiction of Arrival and Dune to the intense action-thriller Sicario. His involvement alone suggests that the next Bond era could take a noticeably different direction from previous incarnations. Villeneuve is also working with screenwriter Steven Knight, best known as the creator of Peaky Blinders.

Knight recently confirmed that the screenplay for the next James Bond movie is finished, marking an important milestone for the project. According to CBR, the film is currently in pre-production, making the identity of its leading man the next major unanswered question. In recent years, the Bond franchise has had to compete for action audiences with series such as Jason Bourne and Mission: Impossible. Villeneuve and Knight may now have the opportunity to launch an entirely new era for 007, while Brosnan is content to watch from the audience and find out who will be the next actor to say the name Bond.
