Red Dead Redemption: The Outlaws Collection Is A Hoax, Here’s Why

Don’t believe all the rumours: Rockstar Games doesn’t seem likely to bring the two Red Dead Redemption games to the new consoles.

There was an Amazon listing for Red Dead Redemption: The Outlaws Collection. This was showcased on Twitter, and it seemed like the 70-dollar deal on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S would offer Red Dead Redemption Remastered, as well as an enhanced port of Red Dead Redemption 2 if it was true. It would contain „a new and familiar set of missions and faces,” as well as ray tracing and faster loading times. Here’s an image of the PlayStation 5 listing below.

However, Zack Zweizen, the weekend editor of Kotaku, quickly debunked all the rumours on Twitter via several tweets: „[Here’s] something interesting to note. As someone who does a lot of Photoshop work, there is a rule that 99% of people who make stuff in Photoshop follow: be lazy. So, if I was making this, I would Google [an] Arthur Morgan PNG and probably grab one of the first good transparent images, and doing that brings up the same piece of the artwork seen in the cover. This also works with Google search term “John Marston RDR2 PNG”.

At that point, it’s pretty easy to do some cropping and recolouring to get the look you want. Next, someone grabbed the horses/men from this artwork and popped it over the top of them, and used a low opacity eraser to blend them. Also, the sun artwork is identical to the actual cover. Oh, and what’s that I spot… Someone screwed up the compositing on the cover and trees that should not be seen can now be seen and look weird.  Now that I pointed this out you can’t unsee how bad that looks,” he wrote.

If these don’t showcase how hoax it looks, how about the fact that the collection was listed with a December 31, 2021 placeholder release date, which is fine, but not the return date: January 31, 2021. Do we need to say anything else?

Therefore, it’s always a good idea to have doubts about such rumours first; we doubt that Take-Two will bring the two Red Dead Redemption games to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series via a new physical release.
