According to rumours, 2021’s Call of Duty (as Activision Blizzard would never skip the opportunity to stack its pockets even further each year) will be set in a familiar period.
First, ModernWarzone, a Call of Duty leaker, wrote that this year’s Call of Duty (which can be bet on outselling the currently newest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as it’s natural for this series…) is currently having a temporary subtitle, WWII: Vanguard. It’s allegedly planned to change later this year.
Who’s developing this game? It’s not Treyarch and it’s not Infinity Ward. It’s being handled by Sledgehammer Games, who previously made Call of Duty: WWII. The rumours fall in line with the previous ones (Sledgehammer is developing the game with a WWII setting again). It’s going to be set in the 1950s, according to the site, but it doesn’t seem realistic, as World War II ended in 1945. Would there be flashbacks? The chance of that happening is high.
Now, let’s twist it a bit: Eurogamer, based on its sources, claim that the game is indeed currently running as Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard. However, it isn’t set in an alternate timeline, so the war isn’t happening in the 1950s as well. Instead, Eurogamer thinks the game will have a „traditional WWII setting.” Sledgehammer Games still has a lot of locations and battles they can build a game on – just think of Eastern Europe or the Balkans.
Whatever this game will be called, it’s likely going to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (as a Battle.net exclusive), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, making it a cross-gen game. As usual, we have to point out that nothing of it is official yet, so it’s not confirmed.
