Nintendo and PlatinumGames are quite secretive about the third story of Cereta.
Nintendo was effectively the last prominent team to showcase their upcoming games at this year’s E3, and their performance wasn’t bad at all (their viewership topped everyone else), but there were a few missing names. For instance, we can name Metroid Prime 4, but at least Samus wasn’t missing the show, as she still showed up with a new game announcement (a 2D Metroid title called Metroid Dread).
The other AWOL name is easily Bayonetta 3. Nintendo’s funding this title (as they did with the second game), so they require exclusivity in return, meaning the third story for Cereza will be on Nintendo Switch. However, the big N had to break the silence, which they did via GameSpot, as Nintendo’s Bill Trinnen and Nate Bihldorff talked about the game we have yet to see.
„I can confirm it still exists,” Bihldorff said. „I will even go one further and say that not only does it exist, but it’s progressing well. We like to show things when we’re ready to show them, and certainly, we like to show things when the developer is ready to show them. We didn’t have it here at E3, but stay tuned,” Trinen added.
So they don’t want to show incomplete games. Fair enough, but they might have announced it too soon… although Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls VI will take over that mantle shortly, which was previously held by Cyberpunk 2077; CD Projekt should have waited). But this complete silence is still worrying.
A reminder: Bayonetta 3 was announced during 2017’s The Game Awards, so more than three and a half years ago. All we got there was a teaser trailer (it makes sense, though). That was still a different world.
