Samurai Warriors: Koei Tecmo celebrates successful sales of veteran franchise

Koei Tecmo thanks fans for their support and encourages them to try the demo of Samurai Warriors 5.

The Samurai Warriors franchise was born in 2004 as a parallel vision to the Dynasty Warriors franchise created by Omega Force and Koei Tecmo, setting the musou genre in the Sengoku period of Japan, where the entire country is at war, with samurai heroes fighting in countless territorial clashes. This premise has been the basis for a long-running saga that has spawned many titles between the major releases and spin-offs of the franchise in various approaches.

Koei Tecmo seems to be pleased with the franchise, as just a few weeks ago, they were celebrating a record quarter with the release of Samurai Warriors 5, and now they’re at no less than 8 million copies sold across all titles in the series. Like Dynasty Warriors and other representatives of the genre, a franchise is experiencing growing interest in the West.

Koei Tecmo thanked fans on its Twitter account with the message, “Thank you for the love and support from everyone!” We’re also reminded that the demo for Samurai Warriors 5 is available on PS4, Xbox X Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. You can also check out our review of Samurai Warriors 5, the latest instalment in the franchise, released on 27 July this year.

As Koei Tecmo has said, the franchise is growing in popularity, and part of its success is due to its ability to adapt to the market. The franchise’s latest instalment aims to appeal to fans of the musou genre and those who have not been interested before, with stories and characters that will appeal to fans of anime and stories about feudal Japan.
