Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Developer Explains Why We Will Only Handle Star-Lord in the Game

Comic book fans have a date with Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy this fall. We are talking about the new action RPG from Eidos Montreal and Square Enix, which puts us in the shoes of the most eccentric group of heroes in the universe in search of adventure. Although to be more precise, in the game, we will only control Star-Lord, giving orders to the rest of the guardians. And this has a reason.

Speaking to VG247, the creative director of the game, Jean-François Dugas, explains that the studio intends to convey the feeling of being a leader, to be that central character that unites everyone else in the adventure. “As in real life, when a group of people work together you meet different personalities […] And when you are a leader, that does not mean that people always agree with your decisions, but that you act like someone who I can lead them towards a common goal. We wanted to show this as well as make it fun.

Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax and Groot ooze personality,” continues the creative. “We wanted the players to be at the centre of this dynamic. And so the question was,’ What if the players were just 1 of the guardians? What if we put them in the shoes of the so-called leader and let them make the decisions? And what if the players had to adapt to the unexpected behaviours of the group? ‘ This unique approach allows us to create an adventure where you feel surrounded by the Guardians at all times.

It was the best way to tell a true Guardians story. Many have considered it a risky move, but this is an exciting vision to develop.” Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on October 26 on PC and consoles.
