Alan Wake Remastered: Would Remedy Release it Just For the Money? Opinions are Divided!

Finland’s Remedy Entertainment seems to use the typical approach with Alan Wake Remastered…

Alan Wake Remastered was recently confirmed, but we already knew about its existence (thanks to the Epic Games Store). The Finns’ game is indeed turning multiplatform after being exclusive to Microsoft for nearly a decade. In the summer of 2019, Remedy managed to gain Alan Wake’s IP (Intellectual Property for short).

“They’re planning an Alan Wake sequel. I’ve talked about this before… they are working with Epic Games on producing an Alan Wake 2, or at least it’s in the planning stages. So does that turn into anything concrete and real? I’m hopeful. I think so. I don’t imagine it will get derailed. They’re super, super busy, so we’ll have to wait and see if that turns into anything soon or not. But yeah, Alan Wake Remastered is them taking back Alan Wake and saying, ‘hey, this is one of our key franchises, we want people to remember it,” VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb said in a Giant Bomb video.

Indeed, Remedy Entertainment is busy: they have a Control sequel and a spin-off in development, and they have an agreement to have several titles published by Epic Games. The latter recently (albeit partially) won in court against Apple. Therefore, we should be somewhat patient about them talking or showing anything regarding Alan Wake 2.

However, we have seen this approach before: a game gets a new, modernized version, and after it proves successful, the follow-up is a new game. Where have we seen this story before? Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy. It turned out to be a significant success, so Activision Blizzard pulls in a new game in the series, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (and since the box breaking marsupial is celebrating its 25th birthday, another game seems likely to follow).

So Alan Wake Remastered seems to be nothing more than a money-grabbing round to build up the hype and marketing for the sequel.

Grabbing controllers since the middle of the nineties. Mostly he has no idea what he does - and he loves Diablo III. (Not.)
