There are rumours that a new video game could be in the works from the decades-old band.
Windows Central and VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb both claim that Brass Lion Entertainment is working on Project Shaolin. It will be a Wu-Tang Clan-themed game, with the American hip-hop band’s work providing the background music. So the Redmond-based company (if all this is true) has asked the studio for a third-person RPG, which could also feature four-player co-operative gameplay and a focus on melee combat.
According to Windows Central, “the campaign is planned to run for a couple of dozen hours, complete with a rich endgame comprised of seasonal content drops and other updates. You will be able to obtain loot, weapons, gear, and so on, in both procedural endgame dungeons and more tailor-made events.” Therefore, the game is planned to be playable for a long time…
Brass Lion Entertainment co-founder Manveer Heir, who previously worked on Mass Effect, tweeted that he’s developing an unannounced action-RPG with “a dope anime aesthetic”, so maybe it’s not fiction. Other co-founders of the studio include Bryna Debby Smith (who worked on Sleeping Dogs) and Rashad Redic (who had involvement with Skyrim and Fallout). Unfortunately, there is a severe lack of official details. Still, Brass Lion’s job listing page shows that they are using Unreal Engine 4 and are “targeting the next generation of consoles and PC.”
Wu-Tang has been involved in video games relatively often: Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style (a four-person fighting game based on the Thrill Kill engine, which was essentially completed but never released by Electronic Arts) was released for PS1 in the autumn of 1999, but several members of the band have also appeared in Def Jam Vendetta, Def Jam Fight For NY and Def Jam: Icon.
All of this is not official yet!
