This Pikachu Will Be Hard To Catch: The 25th Anniversary Pokémon Costs 20,000 Euros [VIDEO]

Pikachu will have a limited edition of 25 units made of Baccarat crystal by artist Hiroshi Fujiwara.

2021 has been a year with a significant Pokémon presence, as the series celebrates its 25th anniversary and we’ve had a plethora of Pokémon-related products. In April, we were able to enjoy New Pokémon Snap, and in less than two weeks, we will receive Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Shimmering Pearl. But the franchise’s merchandising lines have been no less present, and today we’ve been presented with one of the most exclusive.

It comes from Baccarat, a century-old French company dedicated to making high-quality crystal items. Today, they have surprised us with a design of the most famous Pokémon redesigned by Japanese artist Hiroshi Fujiwara. A limited collector’s item of which only 25 units have been made costs a whopping 20,000 euros.

Pikachu, a pop culture star, has captivated the world for a quarter of a century. As adorable as he is magnificent, Pikachu surprises his enemies with his lightning-fast movements,” reads the description of the artwork. The brand has also made other more accessible pieces available for sale as part of the 25th-anniversary line, such as a smaller, simpler Pikachu worth 350 euros and pokéballs made of the same crystal that will cost 320 euros.

We had already seen some figures at prices not suitable for all pockets throughout the year, but nothing compared to the surprise that the French crystal company had prepared for us today. In any case, the prohibitively expensive Pikachu crystal sculpture is likely to become part of the holy grails of Pokémon collectors, alongside other exclusive and limited items such as the Pokémon Red and Blue bicycle raffled off by The Pokémon Company. If you’re a Pokémon fan looking forward to the next Pokémon adventure, remember to check out our preview of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where Mario Gomez discusses how it will evolve the series and how successful it could be.
