Pokémon: 300 Million!

In the last roughly two decades, a lot of Pokémon games were sold. A LOT.

It’s official: the franchise, which is tied to Nintendo, first came out in February 1996 in Japan on Game Boy, followed by a US release in September 1998, and Autumn 1999 in Europe, respectively… and it’s now over three hundred million sales! It doesn’t even include mobile games such as Pokémon Go – only the paid titles!

If we include all spin-offs (excluding the mobile titles), then we have had 76 Pokémon games so far, and the franchise is now the second best-selling franchise ever – only the Mario brothers surpass the sales with their 500 million sales. No need to be disappointed: Pokémon has beaten other huge franchises such as Grand Theft Auto (250 million), Call of Duty (250 million), The Sims (200 million), and Tetris (170 million).

The next core RPG game is already in development for the Nintendo Switch.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
