Geoff Keighley Says To Expect Some More Studio Acquisitions This Year

Geoff Keighley, the father of The Game Awards, claims to have received this information from several people.

As the first month of the year draws to a close, there is shocking news in the games industry: the acquisition of Zynga, Activision Blizzard and Bungie. However, it seems that the show is only just beginning, as according to Geoff Keighley, the organiser of The Game Awards, more studio acquisitions are on the horizon, and we could hear about them later this year.

“There are a few other big video game deals in final stages of negotiations” – Geoff Keighley

“Have heard from multiple people: As you might suspect, there are a few other big video game deals in final stages of negotiations,” Keighley shared on social media. “It’s going to be an interesting year!” he concluded without sharing any further details, although the message is still more than evident.

Although he is a well-known industry insider, Keighley’s words should not be taken as official information, as he has chosen not to reveal any names – if he knows any – leaving a lot of room for theories and speculation.

However, his words are confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, who recently said that Sony is looking to acquire more studios after the Bungie acquisition.

Take-Two started the acquisition spree in January when it paid millions of dollars for the makers of FarmVille, but the deal was overshadowed by Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard a few days later for around $70 billion.
