Although Kojima has previously signed an exclusive deal with Sony for Death Stranding, it has not yet been under the PlayStation banner.
Among the 14 games on the opening screenshot of PlayStation Studios’ web portal, one of the titles that may have gone unnoticed so far is Death Stranding. Kojima Productions’ big title sits alongside several of the multinational’s own developments, such as Returnal (Housemarque), God of War (SIE Santa Monica Studio), etc., so would this be a buy?
Sony has been trying to expand in the video games industry for a few years now through various operations, such as the acquisition of Bungie, a significant investment in Epic Games, or strengthening PlayStation Studios by taking control of companies that have some shared history, as in the case of the team led by Hideo Kojima. For now, however, this is all network speculation.
After his abrupt departure from Konami, the Japanese creator started working exclusively with Sony, resulting in Death Stranding.
However, he did all this as an independent studio. So much so that its PC release came with 505 Games, unlike other PlayStation exclusive titles such as Days Gone, Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War or the upcoming Uncharted: A Thieves Collection.
Now, this mid-February image gives fuel to those who think Kojima Productions could be the next PlayStation purchase. Recall that SIE president Jim Ryan has not ruled out further moves in this direction after it was announced a few weeks ago that he would be taking over Haven Studios from Jade Raymond, who is currently developing a multiplayer game for PS5.
