BioWare: New Tools To Help Dragon Age, Mass Effect Still A Long Way Off

Dragon Age 4 is developing at a pretty decent pace, but we’d better be patient with the new Mass Effect…

In a blog post, the studio has outlined what’s going on around BioWare. Dragon Age 4 is going to be something excellent, according to them, and technical director Maciej Kurowski says that the developers’ tools are much better than what was used in Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda. Those were done with the Frostbite engine, and it’s not exactly the kind of action-RPG gameplay that DICE created the technology for…

According to Kurowski, “At the beginning of this project, we came up with a few principles we wanted to rely on while building the game, and probably the most impactful one was having the right tools that best fit our game. I firmly believe that the developers can be at their most creative when we minimize the friction they encounter in their day-to-day work. So making the tools easy to use and dependable makes it easier for them to be creative, which ultimately makes the game a lot better.

We are always learning and pushing ourselves, and with every game, we get better. But we can continuously improve. I can’t wait to talk more about some of the exciting things we have done on the tech side for Dragon Age. We take characters very seriously and do a lot of work to give them more personality than they have ever had in the past. I can’t say more yet, but we will over time!”

They can officially say that the new Mass Effect is that it’s in early development. It was announced more than a year ago so that probably means that it is indeed in active development, so the studio is no longer in the prototyping phase. And neither Dragon Age 4 nor the next Mass Effect have a release date or target platform, but you can forget about the PlayStation 4, Xbox One duo.

BioWare needs to get its reputation back on track. There’s no question about that…
