Larian Studios’ highly anticipated RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, is not on track to leave early access behind this year.
A few years ago, crowds of RPG fans shouted with joy: Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming! Larian Studios released the game in early access for PC, and while the final release was scheduled for sometime in 2022, there were already statements back then that predicted that wouldn’t be the case.
So far, we have not received any public confirmation of the planned date being pushed back, but in the video at the end of this news, it’s made official: the final release is not expected until 2023.
The announcement was made at the D&D Direct event, where the studio was on hand to talk about the title.
The truth is that the game has come a long way since its 2019 launch, and it seems that time has had its effect, resulting in noticeable changes to the early access version that is now available. “We’ve added a lot of content, and there’s a lot more to come,” says the voice in the video.
“Join us on our journey in early access, or come back in 2023 when the official release arrives.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 sees the saga’s return started by BioWare and Interplay in the 1990s. Now it’s Larian Studios that brings back one of the best classic role-playing game brands of all time and seeks to maximise the RPG genre, giving the player more freedom, essential choices and a powerful AI companion system in the most ambitious title in the series to date.
We learned a few days ago that the Larian team has ten times as many developers as Divinity: Original Sin, which means around 400 people are working on the project – let’s hope there are enough to avoid further delays…
