Maybe Diablo Immortal Won’t Be So “Mobile-Exclusive” After All?

Although it seemed Diablo Immortal would only be available on mobile, Blizzard quickly changed its mind.

As we reported yesterday, Blizzard has thrown Diablo fans’ afternoons into high gear with the release date for Diablo Immortal. The company has insisted that the game will be released exclusively for Android and iOS mobiles, with a particular focus on bringing RPG action to the touch-based realm. Today, however, we were surprised with an extra (official) announcement: the experience will be available for PC players.

“We thought we’d support it [on PC], but we’re confirming it’s a mobile game” – Mike Ybarra

Why has Blizzard changed its mind? The answer is that the developer knows its players and therefore isn’t kidding itself. Along those lines, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra explained the reasoning behind the unexpected decision on Twitter: “We knew people were going to emulate it anyway, and that Windows 11 really allows you to do that with Android, so we thought we’d support it [on PC] but confirm it’s a mobile game.”

This is confirmed in an article on Blizzard’s website, although they also use the space to explain the critical features of Diablo Immortal on PC. The developers assure that the experience will be the same as in the mobile ecosystem but with a more convenient configuration for PC users. So expect a more traditional use of the keyboard and mouse, with an interface adapted to peripherals and devices that will be familiar to all Diablo fans.

There was a lot of doubt around the release of Diablo Immortal after the recent delay, but Blizzard wanted to reassure the community with the promise that the game would be released in 2022. Players certainly have reason to be encouraged by the news, as our first impressions of Diablo Immortal suggest that there will be even more action and fantasy…
